Join us for the dynamic multimedia event Chillida: Combing the Wind and flamenco performance. Composed by Vocal Jazz Professor Judy Niemack, Chillida: Combing the Wind is a multimedia jazz concert celebrating the Peine del Viento (Wind Comb) sculpture by Basque artist Eduardo Chillida. The evening will close with Fiesta Flamenca, a flamenco performance by the Flamenco Vivo Carlota Santana dance company.

Waves on the Wind Comb

Chillida: Combing the Wind consists of a cycle of songs performed by a six-piece instrumental jazz ensemble and four voices, before a backdrop of films, dance and photographs. Renowned NYC jazz musicians along with students of Musikene, the Higher School of Music of the Basque Country, and the Jazz Institut Berlin will perform with Niemack. "She sings like an angel, but one who's heard Basie and Miles" (Downbeat Magazine).


Fiesta Flamenca

Flamenco Vivo Carlota Santana is the nation's premier flamenco and Spanish dance company celebrating its 30th Anniversary.  They believe that the universal spirit of flamenco, a multicultural art form, has the power to build bridges between cultures and inspire audiences from diverse backgrounds. Flamenco is one of the most popular Spanish art forms because of the great intensity of its music. Dancers, singers and guitarists in full flamenco costume present a variety of dances revealing a life full of pride, passion, honor, love and sorrow. Explore the range of flamenco expression through the Sevillanas, Alegrias, Soleares and the Negra Tomasa!
